I think I am an addict.I am addicted to the internet.Like any addict, I can say: "I can give up anytime, I just don't want to". Of course, many millions of people live happily without the internet. Not just people living in some so called less developed nations either. My brother, only a few years old than me, has never been into technology and is not at all interested in the internet. Even though he runs an online only (yes) specialist bookstore. He has broadband and wifi. He even Read more [...]
Solving the ecommerce home delivery problem for online shoppers
15 January 2012 – 12:07
I am really glad to have tried out ByBoxUk and will be signing up for the annual plan (less than £1 per week) shortly as it solves a key home delivery problem for me.
The likes of Home Delivery Network (now called Yodel) are very unreliable for home deliveries in my experience, delivering at strange times, being difficult to contact, hard to track, handling goods poorly at times, and certainly reporting delivery attempts that do not seem to fit with my observations.
Like most people with Read more [...]

Learning photography online
22 December 2009 – 14:09
(from a reply I posted on a facebook photography group) There is a huge amount of material online to help individuals learn and improve their photography including academic course leading to recognised qualifications with a number of universities and photography organisations. The most important thing you can do though, is take photographs. Photography is an art and a skill, and not something you can just learn. You have to practice. Google is your friend. There are lots of basic introductions Read more [...]
Driving Test
23 April 2009 – 20:01
Well done to my eldest daughter (17) for passing her driving test first time. The examiner said that it was one of the best drives he had had for years. She passed with only three minors, one of which was a tactical choice (reversing around a corner: go wide, get a minor; but go narrow and hit the curb, and you fail on a major fault) and the other two were probably down to having a bad cold from me. The route she took was familiar to her. In fact, she had downloaded all 14 of the test routes (they Read more [...]
Termination of my 3 mobile broadband contract
1 March 2009 – 15:03
I have been a mobile broadband user with 3 for 11 months on a 12 month contract so have given them the 30 days notice to terminate the contract as I do not want to continue to pay £25 a month for a service I have never been able to achieve. They could not offer me a better deal. Read more [...]
Got my laptop back
14 January 2008 – 12:33
Hard disk has been replaced. It has just a standard build on it and non of the additional applications that I use. None of my data has been restored either – the hard disk was pretty much dead. (If needed, data could probably have been extracted with extreme prejudice) and I have started the long journey of data recovery from my own backups. (I use an online service to backup my computer in the background whenever I am online.)
The Sewing Forum
15 December 2007 – 14:04
Back in 2004, when my wife was running a sewing couture business, I set up a web based forum called The Sewing Forum
The Sewing Forum became an Unincorporated Association, a club, offering a UK based international discussion forum on sewing and related crafts. The aim was, and remains, to provide an online community of sewers for mutual help and support.
